In Argentina, psychologists who wish to pursue research careers tend to apply for research positions at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET). This agency publishes open calls for new research positions every year (for Phd students, postdocs or permanent research fellows). Candidates’ applications are assessed according to their educational background, and their prior research experience (publications, conference presentations, student advising; National Scientific and Technical Research Council, 2021). There is no public information regarding the number of psychologists working for CONICET, given that those psychologists who apply for research positions are assessed by the “Psychology and Educational Sciences committee” (which also assesses and selects applicants who hold a degree in Education). That is, not all doctoral, postdoctoral and permanent research fellows who are selected by this committee are psychologists, or focus on psychological research.
